Kasumi is the main protagonist of the Dead or Alive series. According to the game canon, Kasumi, also known as "the Kunoichi of Destiny", is a female ninja belonging to the Mugen Tenshin. "Infinite Heavenly God") ninja clan, utilizing the Tenjin Mon style of ninjutsu. She was to become the 18th master of the Mugen Tenshin ninja clan and a secret warrior for all mankind, but ran away in order to enter the Dead or Alive tournament. There, she wanted to defeat Raidou, who crippled her brother Hayate. However, leaving the secretive ninja clan made her a nukenin (runaway shinobi), and she is obliged to live on the run from former comrades seeking to hunt her down and exact retribution for her traitorous action.
